A new Consultant Engineer at FM will learn to engineer risk mitigation solutions from experienced mentors and a community-based work culture for the first 12-18 months. Initially, assignments will be of limited scope and complexity giving you the opportunity to learn. You will gradually begin assessing hazards at larger, more complex sites. Over time, you will build relationships with clients and become a trusted resource, with a depth of expertise in the loss prevention field. You will work with minimal supervision and must be capable of working independently.
Job responsibilities will include:
- Perform hands-on site risk assessments of the client’s physical property, including roofs
- Conduct engineering evaluations which include, but are not limited to, site fire protection water supplies, sprinkler protection, combustible dust hazards, chemical storage, and equipment breakdown potential.
- Ensure that FM Engineering Standards are followed and, as necessary, communicate the appropriate recommendations and/or engineering solutions to clients.
- Deliver a written report following each client site visit, following all FM guidelines and training provided, to ensure procedural and technical accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.
- Work from a home office while effectively managing responsibilities and deadlines, and collaborating with others remotely.
- Travel is required to clients' facilities for site visits. All client site visits will be within driving distance from your home, and a company car is provided. Additional travel will include attending classes at FM’s Training Center (near Boston Massachusetts), and travel to the FM Cleveland office for events, networking, and additional training. Overnight travel should be expected approximately 30% of the time.
FM Cleveland Operations is currently seeking Consultant Engineers with preferred geographic locations in:
- Lansing, MI
- Cleveland, OH
- Toledo, OH
- Pittsburgh, PA
- Louisville, KY
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (various specialties considered)
- Zero to three years of industry experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
- Efficient time management ability with minimal supervision
- Ability to stay focused from a home office environment
- Solid technical aptitude, including diverse knowledge of engineering principles
- Authorization to work in the country you are applying to work in
- Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, walk and stand comfortably during client site visits (which can last all day), able to climb ladders, balance, and deal with heights.
- Proficiency in MS Office products
- A valid driver’s license
