Complete FM training to learn the fundamentals of building construction, occupancy, protection, and exposures (COPE) as it relates to risk assessment and risk mitigation.
· Trail FM Consultant Engineers during their visits to commercial properties of varying complexity and learn how to perform “hands‐on” site assessments of the client’s property. Engage with FM engineers and clients, with curiosity and learning mindset.
· Work independently from a home office (expected approximately 30% of the time), collaborate with others remotely, and experience the “day in the life” view of a full-time Consultant Engineer.
· Practice technical writing skills, and how to navigate technical standards.
· Lead and deliver a capstone project, the scope of which is geared to help our local engineers and clients be more successful.
· Network across various departments within FM to gain a holistic view of the company.
· Participate in professional development events with other interns.
- Plan to graduate with a bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, chemical, mechanical, industrial, electrical, etc.) or fire protection; able to demonstrate diverse knowledge of engineering principles. Engineers completing a degree program in 2027 are preferred.
- Ability to work full time during the timeframe of the summer internship (37.5 hours per week), from the end of May through mid-August.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle throughout internship. Travel is required to clients' facilities for trailing site visits. All client site visits will be within driving distance from your home (typically < 4 hours away). Some overnight travel is expected, up to 7 nights at most.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Efficient time management skills, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, walk and stand comfortably during client site visits (which can last all day), able to climb ladders, balance, and deal with heights.
- Experience using MS Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
The hiring range for this position is $23.00 to $27.00 per hour. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
